The two Shinmei shrines, in Gofuku-machi and in Ote-machi, are both designated cultural assets by the city of Takaoka. Originally they were part of the same structure, the "honden" (main shrine) and "haiden" (front shrine) of Hankyuji Temple. This shrine was built by the third and fourth Kaga clan feudal lord, Maeda Toshitsune and Maeda Mitsutaka, and is one of the oldest structures in the city.
