Hojozu Hachiman Shrine, Imizu-shi

According to an old record of the shrine, Otomo no Yakamochi, then governor of Etchu, admired the scenic beauty of Nagonoura. In 746, during the reign of Emperor Shomu, he established this shrine (then called Nago Hachiman Shrine) by invoking the deity of Usa Hachiman of Kyushu. The shrine's deity is Emperor Ojin and Emperor Nintoku is also enshrined therein.
