A spot of scenic beauty which appears in a poem by Otomo no Yakamochi. A tanka poet in Manyo. Beyond the bay loom the 3,000-meter Tateyama Mountains and the lights of fishing boats can be seen offshore at night. The course from Shimao Seaside Park to Kaisenkan was selected as one of the best 100 promenades of Japan.
