Akagashi, Japanese evergreen oak, Quercus acuta Thunb (Fagaceae)
This tall evergreen prefers warmer areas and grows naturally in mountainous locations. The leaves are coriaceous and are deep lustrous green. When dried, they turn reddish brown. The wood is extremely hard and is widely used for farming implements and musical instruments.
