The fourth son of Maeda Toshiie, Toshitsune succeeded his elder brother Toshinaga after his death to become the third feudal lord of the Kaga clan. In 1615, Takaoka Castle was abandoned in accordance with the Tokugawa shogunate's "one castle in one fief" order.
