Maeda Toshinaga, the first son of Maeda Toshiie, constructed Takaoka Castle in a wasteland called Sekino and entered the castle on September 13, 1609 by the old calendar. He named the area Takaoka after a phrase from old Chinese verse. He implemented various measures to promote industries, such as gathering casters in Kanaya-machi to protect and promote the casting industry.
