In the middle ages there was living in Nishibu Kanaya a family descended from the metal casting masters of Kawachi, which is said to be the cradle of metal casting in Japan. In those days the area was ideally situated to support a metal casting industry. There was no flooding, the Shogawa River provided excellent transport, and there was plenty of sand from the riverbanks available.
