The Tengu Cedar, Higashi Goi

There stood on the grounds of the Rokke Shrine a large Japanese cedar with a circumference some four meters around. It was called Tengu-no-sugi, or the Tengu cedar. The goblin Tengu was said to live there. He would hold banquets at night, making merry with songs and court music. People all around the area would close their doors tightly shut at the unearthly sounds.
