The moats of Takaoka Castle are thought to have been filled using water from the Shogawa River. Investigations have demonstrated the possibility that since a structure for spring water was built at the time of castle construction the square-shaped moat overflowed with cold water. For the most part the levels of water in the moat did not change due to either sunshine or rainfall.
