There are a pair of wooden guardian dogs at the gate of Mitake Shrine. They are designated a cultural asset of the prefecture. Legend has it that a man who visited the house of the village headman one day carved them. Sometime later, two dogs started encroaching on nearby rice paddies and fields every night. Village people shot arrows at the dogs, and followed the bloodstains.
