It is said that Maeda Toshinaga, the second lord of the Kaga clan, presented to the townspeople floats that had been bestowed upon the domain founder Maeda Toshiie by Toyotomi Hideyoshi, one of Japan's great unifiers of the 16th century. The festival got its start when the floats were remodeled and pulled along as part of Sekino Shrine's spring festival.
