The Sano Residence was built by Sugaike Sadajiro, head of the broker's association of the Takaoka rice exchange. As such, this structure incorporated the most Western design elements of Takaoka's storehouse-style townhouses. The double-doors (called Kannon-biraki) on the second floor windows are covered with metal plate, and the fittings on it slide up and down.
