Makino was a village on the road leading from Shinminato to Takaoka. Until the riverbank of Shogawa River was improved in 1900, the road was just a pathway covered with weeds, and a woman ghost haunted it, the legend says. She emerged suddenly from between grasses and asked the pedestrian, baring her teeth: "Are my teeth blackened?"
