In old days, a salt merchant used to come from the town of Shio in Noto to Ik
arabe. He carried his salt on the back of an ox. He was a bad man and mixed white sand into the salt he sold. Eventually, God turned him and his ox into stone in anger, the tradition says. The stone looks like a man holding a salt measure.
