Since time immemorial, the Shogawa river has repeatedly overflowed its banks. During the Edo era, residents of the Yonejima and No-machi areas were troubled by floods as they were located at the confluence of the Oyabe, Daimon and Nakata rivers, the latter of which had been made into the main branch due to a temporary stoppage of the Matsu River.
