There once lived a young man name Taro in Shibutani. He went to the capital to work, and he was employed at court doing odd jobs. There he fell in love with Princess Momiji. Permission was given for them to marry, and the two set off for Taro's hometown. During the long journey, however, the princess became tired, and died within sight of Shibutani.
