Until Yokota-machi was established, this was the western entrance to Takaoka, and when a daimyo would leave to reside in Edo in alternating years, town magistrates and officials would gather on this corner to see him off. An "okosatsuba" was once here, which is an ancient roadside sign upon which laws and ordinances were written.
