Against the backdrop of the growth of capitalism in Japan from the end of the Meiji era to the mid-Taisho era, an industrial area formed along the waterfront at Fushiki Harbor. Starting with the Hokuriku Jinzo Hiryo Co., Ltd. (now Nissan Chemical Industries, Ltd.), the first chemical plant in the prefecture, a succession of companies established a presence here.
