In the great Shogawa River flood of 1896, Kinzoji Temple and the bell tower in front of the main temple building were washed away. The temple bell was washed upside down all the way to Hakusan Shrine, where it suddenly disappeared. After the flood waters subsided, many digs were held, but none uncovered the bell. Its whereabouts remain a mystery to this day.
