Born in Onmadashi-machi. In 1894 he extracted a powerful digestive enzyme, naming it "Takadiastase," for which he obtained a patent. In 1900 he was the first in the world to discover adrenaline, an effective haemostatic agent of great use in surgery. This breakthrough discovery, which vastly improved patients' survival rates, earned him worldwide fame on a par with the Nobel Prize.
