Yumi no Shozu is famous as a natural spring, but it is also an old battlefield. The story goes that Kiso Yoshinaka shot an arrow at the ground in response to his troops’ complaints of thirst, and that water began to bubble forth. This is said to have greatly improved their morale. Mishima Sosen portrays Hannyano as castle ruins imbued with the rancor of the felled warriors.
