Yokogoshi mochi - This local specialty is made from rice grown in the area. The unique feature of Yokogoshi mochi (rice cakes) is that it is made using 100% Shintaisho rice, a hybrid grown especially for use in mochi. Because they are quite sticky and do not fall apart in cooking, these rice cakes are especially favored for use in ozoni (simmered rice cakes with vegetables) and nabe hotpot dishes.
