Copper casting began with making pots, pans, farming implements and other daily necessities, and later developed into industrial arts to make incense burners, flower vases and Buddhist altar fittings. In the Meiji era, chasers were invited to join casters to further enhance the technology. Takaoka copperware won an award at an international exposition and became internationally famous.
