This poem is written in Hotta Yoshie's own hand on the wall to the right of the gallery at the base of the Takaoka Daibutsu. As the poem by this native of Fushiki shows, Takaoka residents think familiarly of the Great Buddha, referring to it as "Daibuttsuan" (an affectionate contraction of the more formal "Daibutsu-san").
