This work of historical fiction is set against the backdrop of the years running from the end of the Tokugawa era through the Meiji era, telling the story of a physician of Dutch medicine in Takaoka and his family. Coming near the opening of the story is a depiction of the street Sakurababa-dori. In the past, it had been a horse-riding ground (baba) lined with cherry trees (sakura).
