Takamine Jokichi to sono tsuma (Nonfiction) by Iinuma Nobuko

Takamine Jokichi, a chemist known the world over for his research findings of adrenaline and diastase, was born in Takaoka. Apparently, there were three Japanese pagoda trees (Sophora japonica) in the grounds of his house at the time. Presently, they are on the grounds of Takamine Park. The trees burned down in the great fire of 1879, but today there are three such trees growing along a hedge in the park.
