Prince Munenaga (Munenaga Shinno), the eighth son of the Emperor Godaigo, was in Etchu during the period of North and South Dynasties to build up the army of the South Dynasty. He was also a famous poet, and made many poems in Etchu. At Chofukuji Temple in Kamimakino, Jokan, then chief priest of the temple, cared for the prince. Bokkanzuka, the ruins of the prince's temporary palace, is located near the temple.
