The medicine industry of Nakada is said to have gotten its start in 1831, and it thrived from the Meiji through the Showa eras (mid-19th through late 20th centuries). A company was established at the beginning of the Showa era, and the pharmaceutical industry became a supplement to the agricultural industry of the area.
