The sedge hat was Kaga clan's major commodity for trade. Sedge was widely grown in Tateno, and the area was well known for Tateno sedge hats. They were sold nationwide as "sedge hats of Kaga." The clan's total trade of sedge hats to other areas is said to have reached about 4,000 kan (about 15 metric ton) in 1830.
