A Shishimai (lion dance) is performed at the autumn festival of Fukuda Shrine. It is performed by a black-faced male lion and a red-faced big female lion. The huge female lion controlled by 22 people visits each house's doorway, opening and shutting its mouth to drive away misfortune from the house. Tateno's lion dance is unique in that it is performed to musical accompaniment of only flutes and drums.
