Shinminato Hikiyama Festival
Shinminato Hikiyama Festival
This Shinto ritual of the Hojozu Hachiman Shrine is called the Shinminato Hikiyama Festival. Held on October 1, 13 wheeled floats are towed around the town. During the day hanayama floats decorated with flowers are featured, and at night chochinyama floats decorated with paper lanterns. The overall effect is quite magnificent. Written records indicate that the festival dates back some 350 years.

Access: From Takaoka Station, Manyo Line to Higashi-Shinminato Station, 10 min. walk
Hokuriku Expressway to Kosugi IC, then 10 min.
