The Yotaka Festival in Tonami has been held every June since the Taisho era (1912~1926)
to pray for a good harvest and a prosperous year. The kabuki
performances put on by children are a popular highlight among
the city's residents. Approximately 20 yotaka lanterns, large
and small, vie for supremacy in a lively display.
The festival is held on the second Friday and Saturday of
June in Tonami.
