Plants along the Banks of Oyabe River, Takaoka Area

Inutode, Polygonum longisetum (Polygonaceae)
This annual is often found along roadsides or in fields and grows to a height of 20 to 50 centimeters. It is commonly called "akamanma" in Japanese and is used by children for playing house. The plant flowers from June to October with a spike from one to five centimeters on the end of the branch. The calyx is crimson with five incisions. There are no petals.
