Akigumi, Autumn Olive, Elaeagnus umbellata Thumb (Elaeagnaceae) The autumn olive often is found in fields near rivers and in open fields with good sunlight. It branches frequently and reaches a height of two to three meters. Its leaves are opposite. It blooms in white flowers of several clusters in April and May. The red, globular fruit ripen in October and November. It is somewhat astringent, but edible.
