Sainenji, a temple of the Jodo Shin sect of Buddhism, was established by the chief priest Keijo in 1522. When Oda Nobunaga attacked Ishiyama Honganji Temple, the major temple of the sect during the Tensho era (1573-1592), Keisei, the third chief priest of Sainenji, and his followers fought to protect it. The present main hall, built in 1810, is one of the most well-preserved temple buildings in Toyama Prefecture.
