The shrine is located to the west of the site of Etchu Kokubunji Temple in Fushiki Ichinomiya. A tradition says it was established in 757 as a branch of Keta Taisha Shrine in Hakui in Noto by inviting its god. According to another tradition, it was established in 718 by priest Gyoki. The record says the present main shrine was reconstructed during the Eiroku period (1558-1570).
