Tateno once prospered as a post-station town. In the Meiji period, the jinrikisha (rickshaw) was introduced. After a bus service started in 1925, jinrikisha disappeared. People welcomed the introduction of buses, calling them chin-chin densha (a term that is usually used to refer to streetcars).
