There is a magnificent old pine tree in Kamiwatari in Tateno. In old days, the area was a trackless wasteland, but when Taiko Toyotomi Hideyoshi visited the province of Etchu, he hacked his way and opened a path through the wilderness. Taiko's horse was hitched to this pine tree while he rested, so it is called Taiko-no-Komatsunagi Matsu (the pine tree to which Taiko's horse was hitched).
