There is a spring near Sofu River on the outskirts of Tateno. In 1585, a great earthquake caused Kibune Castle, the residence of feudal lord Maeda Hidetsugu, to collapse nine meters, injuring and killing many people. A woman named Otan fled from the castle to Tateno. However, when she was trying to get her horse to drink water from the spring, she fell in and was drowned.
