(1) Tateno
Tradition has it that an inhabitant of Yamato cultivated this area and named it Tateno.
(2) Takatajima
When the Oyabe River flooded, this area was not submerged because it is higher than the surrounding areas, and its rice field looked like an island. Therefore, the area came to be called Takatajima (meaning "high rice field island").
