Ayu, Sweetfish, Plecoglossus altivelis (Plecoglossidae)
The fish's back is a bluish olive color, while its belly is silver-white. In the spawning season it is known as "rusty ayu," when both males and females become blackish in color. It is found in western Hokkaido and southward throughout Japan.
