Kuro Sanshouo, Blacked Salamander, Hynobius nigrescens (Hynobiidae) A comparatively large salamander with a dark or blackish brown back. Its egg-laying season roughly coincides with the thawing of the snow. Eggs are laid mainly in ponds, marshes, and rice fields, but a forest or bog must be nearby.
