Genjibotaru, Genji firefly, Luciola cruciata (Lampyridae) The Genji firefly inhabits rivers and streams while the Heike firefly can be found by rice paddies and irrigation ditches, where the water flows more gently. The body is black with dark hairs. The prothorax is a pale red and is covered with light-colored hairs. The overall length is 12-18 mm.
